SBCAST

Santa Barbara Center for Art, Science and Technology, Santa Barbara, CA

SBCAST is a low-cost, privately funded, not-for-profit, live/work development that supports collaborative work between artists, scientists, and technologists.

Public Mandate

The Center has an educational and community outreach mandate to further public understanding and enjoyment of art, science, and technology through their juxtaposition in a creative, accessible, and engaging setting. In addition to a variety of community spaces and shared state-of-the-art workshop facilities, it includes an affordable housing component for 7 permanent residents and 2 visiting collaborators. 

Sustainability

Designed according to sustainable design principles, it generates PV electricity on site, distributes solar-heated water for potable and radiant heating use, and collects rainwater for it’s multi-level gardens.
